Burroughs Kills Trade Leaves Braves, Rangers Vexed

AP reports a five player deal between the Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves collapsed when Jeff Burroughs invoked his no trade clause during the winter meetings. Braves officials including John Mullen and Ted Turner failed to persuade Burroughs to accept Texas along with Adrian Devine and Pepe Frias for Doyle Alexander and Larvell Blanks. Rangers then renewed talks with the Philadelphia Phillies, offering Sparky Lyle or other assets, while Detroit sent Ron LeFlore to Montreal for Dan Schatzeder. LeFlore, a 1973 signing from prison, batted .300 with 78 steals last season and has contract disputes with Detroit. Schatzeder posted 10-5 for Expos in 1979.
