Engagement brings recovery and plans after wreck
Katie Gardner and Corey Thiessen announced plans to wed May 5 after a January 2 2011 crash that left Gardner with traumatic brain injury. She spent weeks in rehab at Via Christi Lady of Lourdes in Wichita and Garfield Elementary in El Dorado before returning to teaching. The couple and families credit faith, support from students and teachers, and Gardner rising from wheelchair dependence through intensive therapy and memory work to a hopeful future.
