Beef sales lean on tough year for Kansas livestock
Kansas State University figures show a lean year for cattle and hog producers. Cow-calf producers took about a 60 per head loss on selling fail weaned calves, feeders lost about 115 per finished steer in September, then 60 in October and 25 in November. Break even expected in December as prices hover in the low 60s per hundredweight. Hog producers averaged a 200 per litter loss amid falling meat prices and higher feed costs.
