Mary L. Oestreicher, a legal assistant at Robert W. Green Chartered in Ottawa, was certified by the National Association of Legal Secretaries as a Professional Legal Secretary after a two day exam. She moved from Richmond to rural Garnett and has worked with Green since 1984, earning the 1993 1994 Legal Secretary of the Year award from the Kansas association chapter.

County OKs pay raises and sheriff fleet purchases
Franklin County commissioners approved a $17,700 bid with a trade-in for a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria and $17,000 with a trade-in for a 1996 GMC Jimmy to modernize the sheriff fleet. They also raised wages for county workers across several departments and signed a contract with West Franklin schools to add a school resource officer. Stop signs at Florida and Jackson Roads will be removed and a $1,200 grant for county hazardous materials training was pursued.
