Kansas Firms Seek University Tech Transfer Boost
Kansas manufacturers and tech businesses face growing global competition. A Kansas Business Review study by Anthony Redwood of KU notes the state lacks private research think tanks and relies on higher education and the Kansas College of Technology. The report, funded by Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp., argues for stronger university collaboration to commercialize innovations and support jobs.

Kansas economy slows as October index dips modestly
The Kansas Index of Leading Economic Indicators declined to 128.31 in October from 129.73 in September, signaling a slight slow down. Key negative factors were a drop in average weekly hours in manufacturing and wheat and stock prices, while M2 and cattle prices rose slightly and unemployment claims fell. Kansas State University compiles the index, using six state components and a U.S. M2 measure, with monthly figures for 1989 and a 1990 ASCS committee slate also noted.
