Holiday Trees Bring Birds as Officials Block Indoor Decor
The Wintergreen Trees operation in Ottawa area donated evergreens to local kindergartens for Christmas. To comply with the National Life Safety Code, outdoor trees will be decorated for birds with peanut butter balls and popcorn. Sacred Heart Eisenhower and Ottawa Middle plan bird friendly decorations, while the Courthouse undecorates a donated 12 foot cedar to avoid fire risk. Local officials cite expense and fire safety as reasons to forego indoor trees and accept the Dunns windbreak tree possibility.
