Christmas Customs Told By Student

Aarman Ardal from Norway spoke at the Cosmopolitan Club at Mrs. Marmon s home about Norwegian Christmas customs. He noted that Christmas trees began in Norway in the 13th century and that lights once lit hillside windows to ward off evil spirits. He said Christmas is now more mercialized and celebrations center on Christmas Eve, with elderly parties on Dec 27 or 28. Norwegian society aims for no poverty and is governed by the Lutheran church. Mrs Lloyd Carr led a brief meeting with 11 members and two guests, a federation citation for 100 percent club magazine subscriptions, and a Christmas tea at which cups and favors were collected for nursing homes.
