Bumpy Road Ahead For KDOT Highway Plans
Transportation Secretary John B Kemp says Kansas cannot fund new four lane highways while existing roads need preservation. He notes current revenue sources will be used up for maintenance, leaving no funds for construction. Kemp, 68, has led KDOT since 1979 and discusses transitions with Gov-elect Hayden. He warns the next administration faces tough choices on funding and priorities amid shrinking revenues and inflation.
