Fire devastates Alta Vista downtown including Masonic Lodge

A late Monday fire destroyed several downtown Alta Vista businesses and the Masonic Lodge, with smoke inhalation treated for one person. Fire broke out in the upholstery shop basement, flames visible miles away, as crews from Alma Council Grove and Dwight fought the blaze in 22 degree weather and snow on the ground. Damages and totals were not yet estimated.
