Playmates and Presidents Join Phi Beta Kappa
Phi Beta Kappa marked its 204th anniversary with members including Playboy Playmate Vicki McCarty and inmate William Basket. McCarty earned the key at Berkeley and starred in Playboy in 1979, while Basket, the first incarcerated inductee, earned a psychology degree at Leavenworth and hopes for a PhD after release. The society, founded in 1776, counts 300,000 members across 228 chapters and remains selective in inviting fewer than 10 percent of eligible students.
