Menninger to move clinic to Texas from Topeka
The Menninger psychiatric clinic will relocate to Houston joining Baylor College of Medicine and Methodist Hospital after restructuring reduced staff to 250. Plans call for moving by June, selling Topeka campus land, and forming a lasting affiliate with major research institutions amid financial stress from managed care. Governor-elect Sebelius and House Speaker Mays lamented the decision.

Residents oppose new highway route near Ferguson home

Wait and see on highways budget timing
Kansas Transportation plans show I-70 clear of winter delays but future projects face a hold due to a $13 billion 1999 program and a looming budget gap. Gov Graves favors not repaying a $95 million loan, implying maintenance first and possible reevaluation of expansions such as US 59 Ottawa to Lawrence and KS 61 Hutchinson to McPherson.
