Injured crane triggers hunting ban at Quivira refuge
An injured female whooping crane with a broken leg prompted a temporary spot closure at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. The crane, sighted November 12, has limited mobility, causing officials to restrict hunting in the area while the migratory flock of under 200 cranes travels from Canada to the Gulf Coast for winter. About 375 wild cranes exist globally.
