First Heart Liver And Kidney Transplant Performed
In Pittsburgh, Cindy Martin received a heart liver and kidney in a 214 hour operation, the first such triple organ transplant. Her husband John Martin spoke with the donor’s husband Dimitri Morris as Mrs. Auli Mavris died from injuries in a parking lot accident. Mrs Martin remains in critical condition but is improving and may be weaned from a respirator in the Presbyterian University Hospital ICU. In Chicago, 22 month old Alyssa Smith who received a living donor liver transplant showed progress eight days after surgery.
