Swiss price increases exceed 10 percent for a third time in a month with overnight hikes from 46 to 61 cents per gallon. Sunday driving banned for all, including foreigners, while no rationing is in effect.

A vast armada gathered at Port Said as British and French forces moved to withdraw from Egypt sooner than the two to three week window. A dawn line of ships emptied the harbor while Canadian Maj. Gen. Burns and Gen. Sir Charles Keightley met to finalize the withdrawal plan as over 2,000 troops boarded ships for home a month after paratroops first landed.
John J Mike Shaughnessy 63 a retired construction worker died in an early morning fire that heavily damaged his home. He lived alone in an upstairs apartment above a brother James Shaughnessy’s garage. Fire Chief Robert Schroeder said the cause is undetermined. He is survived by three brothers and seven sisters.
The Agriculture Department reports cash receipts to Kansas from farm marketings for January through September 1956 totaled 635.0 million dollars, down from 662.0 million in the same period a year earlier. Livestock income slipped from 349.1 million to 347.4 million, while crop receipts fell from 312.9 million to 287.6 million. Kansas compared with Oklahoma shows 37.3 million versus 311.9 million and nearby states led by Nebraska 694.5 million, Missouri 662.3 million, Colorado 285.8 million.
