Self Taught Artist Develops Realistic Pastels and Paintings

Jean Swift, a New Jersey native now based in Ottawa with a studio in Rantoul, will exhibit pastels and oil paintings December 6 through 10 in the Anchor Savings Association Building. Self-trained, she earned formal instruction only via correspondence in high school and has worked as a photographer's artist and colorist. The show includes portraits, land and family scenes, and drawings, with Swift noting she does not rely on color theory, prefers realism, and may return to painting after settling following her husband's September death.
