Aquino Files Candidacy Against Marcos for Philippine Presidency

Corazon Aquino announced she will run for president against 20 year incumbent Ferdinand Marcos. She accused Marcos of responsibility for the assassination of her husband Benigno Aquino and vowed to lead a coalition seeking a regular vote in 1987. Laurel considered as her running mate for vice president as coalition leaders rally. Marcos reinstated Fabian Ver as armed forces chief after court acquitted Ver and 25 others in the 1983 assassination.

Final Wheat Checks Due From USDA Deficiency Payments

Washington AP reports final 1985 deficiency payments totaling about 1.5 billion dollars will go to roughly 475,000 wheat farmers, plus 150 million to 53,000 barley producers and 10 million to 25,000 oat producers. Payments reflect shortfalls between target prices and market or loan rates amid a 30 percent wheat acreage cut requirement.
