Mickey Owen Resigns Pitcher Role For Greene County Sheriff
Former major league star Mickey Owen, a Springfield native and Greene County sheriff elect, will start his new task January 1. The Democrat and 13 year MLB veteran with the Cardinals Dodgers Cubs and Red Sox won the sheriff race by about 1900 votes in a GOP county. Owen built a regional baseball school attracting 528 students last summer and cites youth programs as his mission while noting a family sheriff legacy dating to the 1870s.
