Farm leaders gather at Kansas Farm Bureau Presidents Conference
Cecil Rockhold, Franklin County Farm Bureau president, attended the Kansas Farm Bureau Presidents Conference in Wichita November 1920. Gary Hall urged local presidents to lead, while the Coen family received the 2022 Farm Family Award for service to Farm Bureau and community. The Coens run an 80 head dairy farm on 33 acres with crops including corn and soybeans. John Coen previously chaired the Franklin County Farm Bureau Board and earned district honors. Cherry Coen led a 4-H program and PTA. The Harris and Wolf Creek Angus Ranches joined the American Angus Association, noted as the world’s largest beef registry with over 12 million records. Kansas State University’s Livestock Judging Team, including Ryan Higbie, won its fourth straight national title at Louisville, with multiple top-10 individual finishes.

Georgia pecan harvest trimmed by drought and downpours
Georgia growers warn this year s pecan crop may fall short of the 90 million pound forecast due to a summer drought and late season rains. The 1996 crop was 100 million pounds valued at 62 million dollars, with prices ranging from 45 cents to 1.30 per pound for different qualities as shellers report softer demand after the Thanksgiving rush.
