Gas supply shrink sparks fears of higher pump prices
U S gasoline inventories fell 6.7 million barrels in the latest week to 196.2 million, signaling tighter supply ahead of Labor Day. Citgo won EPA approval to sell a cheaper lower grade blend in the Midwest to ease a price spike, paying about 14 cents per gallon to the Treasury. The move follows refinery disruptions including Citgo’s Lemont fire and Premcor’s Blue Island closure, with Midwest prices averaging 1.66 per gallon versus a national 1.49.
