Braves Acquire Len Barker To Shore Up Rotation
Atlanta Braves obtain Len Barker from Cleveland Indians for three players to be named later and plan to insert him into the starting rotation. Joe Torre says Barker will start Wednesday in place of Pascual Perez, with Perez pushed back a day and Dayley or Falcone perhaps moved to the bullpen. Barker, 28, capped a stellar career arc with a perfect game in 1981 and led the AL in strikeouts in 1980 and 1981. He joins a young rotation as Phil Niekro remains the veteran presence.
