Ottawa business owner announces a new Halloween zombie hunt planned for the season. The feature activity invites local participants to join the scare event, with page seven providing details and dates for the public.
The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce is set to announce John Coen as its new president. Coen, assistant vice president at Kansas State Bank Ottawa for three years, aims to attract new business, strengthen existing firms, and grow membership. Chamber chair Mike Skidmore called the selection unanimous after interviews.
Nearly 300 participants completed Ransom Memorial Hospital’s third annual 5K Run Walk through downtown Ottawa on Saturday. The event aimed at promoting wellness and raising funds for digital mammography equipment, with top finishers including David Cox 27 Ottawa first in men’s division with 16 43, and winners Lindsey Dieterich 29 Princeton Melissa Spratt 53 Ottawa and Lisa Rivers 34 Ottawa in the women’s. Organizers noted strong sponsor support and that about 400 signed up, though some did not run. Planning for Aug 24 next year has begun.
Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa faces a potential Medicare penalty for readmitting patients too soon after discharge. The Kaiser Health News analysis lists about 2,200 hospitals nationwide with penalties. Ransom’s would be 0.13 percent, about $4,600. CEO Larry Felix notes additional Medicare gains from value based programs and says the policy aims to cut costs, while the hospital will admit patients when needed.
