Ottawa and Franklin County see population drop in 1990 census

The 1990 preliminary census totals show Ottawa population at 10 585, down from 11 016 in 1980, and Franklin County at 21 809, 253 fewer than 1980. Officials caution the figures are preliminary and not for official budgeting or government use. Despite the dip, Ottawa reports strong housing growth with eight new or under construction houses this year versus six in all of 1989.

The U S trade deficit shrank to 22.58 billion dollars for Q2 from 26.28 billion, aided by lower oil imports and record U S export sales. Exports rose to 96.74 billion, a new quarterly high, though analysts cautioned the improvement largely reflected oil price drops now reversed by the Kuwait war.
