Probe to eye Gore fundraising
Attorney General Janet Reno orders a new 90 day preliminary probe into Vice President Al Gore's 45 telephone calls soliciting campaign contributions from fall 1995 to spring 1996 to assess whether to appoint an independent counsel. The court was notified and Reno cited policy and law as factors in her decision.

Robert H. Coburn Sr. of Paola died Aug 13 1998 at home. Funeral Monday at Wilson and Son Funeral Home Paola with burial at Pleasanton Cemetery. Born Dec 29 1937, he served as Navy aviation electronics technician and worked for Kansas City Power and Light then Miami Lumber Co. Survived by Virginia Foster wife, son Robert Jr., daughter Claudette Hollinger, two brothers, three grandchildren. He was 60.

Sirloin Stockade restaurants including Salina Abilene Ottawa and McPherson were fined 114800 by the U S Department of Labor for child labor violations. An Abilene worker 15 was injured by a dough mixer while minors were reported for work at 415 am and worked over 12 hours daily and after midnight. The Ottawa location was cited but not fined. Firms SS of Kansas LL G Inc and JCK Inc all doing business as Sirloin Stockade are Hutchinson headquartered. Company says violations corrected and appeals the latest fine.
