Kansas Demos Heal Split Over Mississippi

ATLANTIC CITY AP Kans as National Committeeman Frank Theis says it looks like harmony from here on in and the other Kansas delegates at the Democratic national convention seconded his prophecy. It might have been different, but the roughest hurdle was cleared Tuesday night as the Kansas delegation settled to nominate the national ticket. A noisy argument Tuesday over seating the Mississippi delegation threatened to leave sore spots among the delegates, but the Credentials Committee report was approved by voice vote. If a vote had occurred, a poll of the delegation would have been needed. Theis said there would be an afternoon caucus and no pending business beyond routine matters. The Kansas delegation backs President Johnson and his choice for the vice presidential nomination, with no expected race for second place. The rally for Fred Harris, Oklahoma Senate nominee, drew Kansas delegates as Harris was introduced with placards from Oklahoma.
