Krakow Tower Trumpeters Endure Cold and Bugs in Fire Tower
Kazimir Pudelko, a 26 year old Krakow trumpet player and firefighter, serves a 24 hour shift in the 500 year old fire tower above Krakow's market square. Six trumpeters perform the two line Marian Fanfare hourly while maintaining fire lookout duties. The job is cramped, dusty and bug plagued due to 5000 pigeon nests, and a 1907 microphone relic anchors their small room. Officials will debug the tower and improve heating and sound without changing the 24 hour on, 48 hour off schedule.

Advice For Home Roofers By ANDY LANG AP News
Homeowners learn roof color choices affect perceived height, signs of wear signal replacement need, and that professional inspection determines overboarding old shingles. Asphalt shingles can often be installed over existing roofs but not over hard materials, gutters require clear leaves, and fire ratings classify slate, clay tile, and asphalt. Roofing is sold in squares, heavier shingles last longer, fiberglass bases can be lighter, and mineral granules shield from sun.
