Global stocks rise on Fed cheer and Chinese rebound

Markets climbed worldwide after Fed chair Bernanke signaled a near term recovery and U S housing data beat forecasts. Tokyo led with a 3 percent gain as Asia followed Wall Street higher, aided by firmer oil and metal prices and renewed demand from commodity producers. European indices rose modestly as investors priced in continued gains while oil hovered above 74 dollars a barrel and the dollar firmed against the yen. Thailand and China's markets posted notable advances with Sinopec and major miners among winners. Stronger profits in Asia and improved U S data supported renewed confidence in a global economic upturn.
