Pluto Loses Planet Status Under New IAU Definition

Prague AP report says leading astronomers adopt guidelines that shrink the solar system from nine to eight planets. The International Astronomical Union declares Pluto not a planet, ending its status since Clyde Tombaugh’s 1930 discovery. The move resolves a long-running scientific debate.

Fire chief charged with attempted theft of cigarettes

GOODLAND The fire chief Scott Gilmer and volunteer firefighter Neal Normandin face theft charges after cigarettes spilled from a wrecked tractor trailer. Gilmer is charged with misdemeanor attempted theft for allegedly stuffing cartons into his uniform. Normandin faces a felony theft charge for taking cigarettes. The July 19 crash on Interstate 70 dumped about $1.5 million worth of cigarettes. Gilmer’s attorney entered a not guilty plea and Normandin’s court date is next week.
