Probes Loom Over Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission conducts three investigations of the Wolf Creek power plant in Kansas, with NRC chief investigator Ben Hayes withholding details. KG&E owns 47 percent and says it has complied with information requests while not knowing the investigations’ specifics. The probes arise from worker complaints from KG&E’s labor program, touching on past harassment, falsified documents, and drug use during construction. If penalties arise, actions could include fines or license suspension. Gov. Carlin may see a state safety monitor. Wolf Creek has returned to full power after a water pump vibration issue, after operating 50 to 60 percent for over a week.
