Lottery Prize Share Claimed While Workers Report To Work
A 36-year-old man claimed one third of a $41 million North American lottery prize as 21 factory workers who pooled their chances returned to work at Hantshe Inc in Mt. Vernon. Joe Moore of Brooklyn won $13.7 million and said he will likely keep his data processing job and shelter much of his winnings from taxes. The Albany winner had not yet claimed the prize. Immigrant workers from China, the Dominican Republic, Poland, Trinidad, Thailand, Yugoslavia, Paraguay, and Hungary supported the pool.

Lebanese University officials abducted in Beirut
Two Lebanese Christian employees of the American University of Beirut are abducted. Semaan Gaddaa from the hospital admissions department and Simon Skaff, a librarian, are described as in their mid thirties. Gaddaa was seized Monday returning from Moslem West Beirut. Skaff was taken Sunday while traveling from East Beirut to the Moslem sector. The university notes no group has claimed responsibility.

Carbide Blames Equipment Failure for Gas Leak at Institute Plant
Union Carbide Corp. says an Aug. 11 leak at its Institute plant was caused by a self-sustaining reaction from accidental heating of a storage reactor. The cloud contained 650 pounds of methylene chloride and 2,800 pounds of aldicarb oxime decomposition products, with about 4,000 pounds remaining in the tank. 135 people were hospitalized.
