Ex-Canada Star Gives 49ers Boost
Vic Washington, a 5-11, 190-pound back from Plainfield New Jersey, who played in the Canadian Football League after Wyoming, scored twice as the San Francisco 49ers beat the San Diego Chargers 28-17 in an exhibition. Washington, versatile as receiver and returner, relished the chance to prove he can be an NFL running back despite critics. He previously led Wyoming in punt returns and held track records, returning to the U.S. after Canadian stints with Ottawa and Vancouver. The weekend NFL exhibition slate featured multiple games across cities, with Washington’s performance highlighted.

Pacific Conference punished by NCAA ruling hits Cal and UCLA
The NCAA denied appeals to Cal and UCLA over Rule 1.6 violations, barring post season play for Cal for three years and freezing UCLA ineligibility. Cal faces three-year probation and will miss post season and NCAA television series while Isaac Curtis and McAlister navigate eligibility. Cal coach Ray Willsey denounced the decision yet supports current athletes who remain eligible to compete. Cal will host Washington in a regionally televised game on November 6.
