Central Heights raises mill levy 1.6 for bond costs in Kansas
Central Heights schools face funding cuts as state aid is prorated. Superintendent Jim White says the district increased the local option budget by 50 000 to offset a 60 000 drop in the general fund while keeping the mill levy as stable as possible. The 1.557 mill hike funds bond interest starting this March. White notes wealthier districts receive less funding and less wealthy districts more, with the district measuring a net rise in local taxes to cover the bond and reduced state funds.
