Ridge planting could cut tillage and boost yields in Kansas
Field Day facts show ridge planting at East Central Kansas Experiment Station could save farmers up to five dollars per acre on tillage and as much as ten dollars per acre by eliminating two spring cultivations. The method dries ridges faster for early planting, limits tillage to three passes a year, and relies on weed control and contour planting to prevent erosion.

Franklin County rural firefighters and others will attend a 7 p.m. meeting on Tuesday Aug 27 at the Franklin County Farm Bureau room 114 E 2nd. Chuck Hougland from the Kansas Farm Bureau Safety Department will train on extricating victims from farm equipment and apply to many safety tasks. Eudora Evans, chairman of the Farm Bureau safety committee, said Hougland is a strong instructor and the program is open to all safety-minded people.
