Welfare reforms to start October first in Kansas
Kansas will begin implementing welfare reform initiatives on October 1 after federal approval. The plan, developed by the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services and approved by the Legislature, allows waivers of certain federal rules for AFDC and Food Stamps. It lets recipients extend job-search hours and enables parents or children under six to work more than twenty hours weekly. Harold Hosey of Emporia says he will resign from the Kansas State Board of Education before January to become interim superintendent in Dodge City after losing the August 6 primary to Rene Armbruster. The 4th District covers multiple counties in northeast Kansas.
