Backyard rail empire shows lifelong train passion
Joy Leiker profiles Natoma resident John Seitz whose 700 feet of tracks create a backyard miniature city. A 91 by 37 foot layout includes two operating tracks, a cable car and a roof to shop tunnel. Seitz also houses 30 locomotives and 100 cars, with many rebuilt or custom. His son Blake shares the hobby, with a circular track built through Blake’s room and a “Blakestown Population 2” sign at the station.

Three Earhart search teams split Pacific targets
Three independent groups pursue Amelia Earhart’s plane from Howland Island, Nikumaroro, and the Marshall Islands. Nauticus aims 17,000 feet deep near Howland with 3 million dollars for sonar searches. TIGHAR plans Nikumaroro digs for the sixth time since 1989, and a separate Marshall Island inquiry studies a proposed Electra on a beach photo. Relatives vary in enthusiasm as projects unfold.
