Government auditors flag overstates in Cessna and Boeing bids
Congress was told the government could have negotiated $326 800 less with Cessna if overstatements had not occurred. GAO found Boeing overstated costs by $1 475 000 on KC 135 contracts from 1960 and 1961. Campbell said Cessna added about $51 500 to estimates for rejections and profit, while Cessna cut prices by $473,800 on three contracts when labor came in lower. Boeing acknowledged $180 817 in overstatements with others unlikely to require adjustments. Air Force plans price reductions and audits of outside production costs.
