The first Miami County Roots Festival will run 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Paola Park Square. The event features 45 arts and crafts booths 15 ethnic food vendors Indian dancers a Civil War reenactment a Monarch display blues bluegrass and reggae acts and a street dance Saturday night featuring John Paul and the Hell Hounds.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 9 000 calls came in last week about a safety recall of sheer rayon skirts made in India. Many callers mistake which items are recalled. the agency lists broomstick skirts dresses pants scarves and 100 percent cotton garments as not recalled. The two layer skirts with sheer chiffon over gauze are the fire hazard recalled, long and full with elastic waists, sometimes with drawstrings, labeled 100 percent rayon or 65 percent rayon 35 percent cotton.
