One Vote Short of Adoption in Interleague Play

Milwaukee AP report says Major League Baseball fell one vote short of adopting interleague play in 1974 as Commissioner Bowie Kuhn declined to cast the tie breaking vote. Kuhn cited a legal challenge to his powers but indicated future consideration is possible. The American League supported interleague play while the National League opposed it. Bud Selig of the Milwaukee Brewers voiced disappointment. A five member blue ribbon steering committee was created to study baseball matters and report at the winter meetings in Houston.
