Soufriere Volcano seen nearing eruption in Guadeloupe
French scientist Dr Charles Brousse of the University of Paris warned the Soufriere volcano could erupt within 10 to 12 hours after thousands were evacuated from a 72,000 person danger zone. He predicted forces akin to Mt Pelee's 1902 blast, but said an area large enough had been cleared to prevent loss of life as ash and gas vents intensified and schools housed evacuees.
