Editorial notes Kansas Lansing prison troubles with an escaped inmate briefly fleeing to a house before returning to confinement. A Kansas student body president at KU criticizes traditional credits and grades, proposing direct action education as abolition of standard requirements.
A parent reports physician diagnosed a tight neck muscle in a six week old after X-rays. Massaging a knot and using hot packs helped, but the baby again favors the right neck side and the lump reappears when not well.
The doctor explains two main torticollis types congenital and acquired. Most acquired cases arise from birth muscle injury. X-rays rule out congenital deformity. Conservative treatment is tried first, positioning the baby on the affected side. Surgery, if needed, is usually after about one year, as delaying makes correction harder.
Sen. John Sherman Cooper plans to press for a Senate record opposing use of U S troops in Thailand to combat insurgency. He ties his move to fears of expanded U S involvement and notes a secret 1964 Thai US military agreement could place U S forces under Thai command if Laos and Vietnam threats arise.
In Bison Kansas a town of 83 plans a Sunday reunion for all 57 years of Bison High School graduates plus spouses children and former teachers. About 1000 visitors are anticipated as the district shifts to a unified school system with a new junior high building.

Gov. Robert Docking commended Kansas Army reservists of the 101st Supply and Service Company for their Vietnam service in the American way. The unit, with 140 men ordered to active duty May 13 1968, left for Vietnam in September 1968 and returned last weekend, with members receiving 16 bronze stars and 17 Army commendation medals. two members were killed. The ceremony at Emporia Civic Auditorium was attended by Maj. Gen. Herbert T. Johnson and Sen. Robert Dole among others. About 60 more went to Independence for ceremonies at Riverside Stadium.
