The article recalls Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, and Dan Rather as trusted nightly father figures who anchored decades of news. Jennings died on August 7 after leaving air due to cancer. Brokaw and Rather moved to grandfatherly roles. It discusses viewers’ dependence, the shock of their absence, and speculation on future anchors like Katie Couric and Brian Williams filling the void.
