Rare fatal skydiving death near Ottawa during grand opening
The Ottawa area saw a fatal skydiving incident during the Sky dive Lawrence grand opening weekend. Brad Giffin, 54, of Wichita, vanished after exiting a Cessna Skylane 182 at about 4 500 feet while his companion deployed a parachute. Experienced jumper Giffin had logged over 500 jumps and disappeared as the younger skydiver landed safely at the drop zone east of Ottawa. Local organizers and Skydive Gypsy Moths heading from Wichita assisted in the search near the Kansas Drop Zone at 3196 K 68.
