KCC Rebuts Audit On Kansas Utility Regulation Efforts
Kansas Corporation Commission officials defend their role in shaping utility regulation after a Legislative Post Audit criticized limited long range policy work. Chair Pete Loux denounces the audit as nonsensical, citing hearings, decisions, and programs like the Consumer Bill of Rights and energy conservation studies as proof of proactive policy shaping.

Former Policeman Executed in Virginia Chair Death
Frank J. Coppola, 38, a former policeman once studying for the priesthood, was executed by electric chair in Richmond after Supreme Court approval of his plea for speedier death. Witnesses, including state legislator J Samuel Glasscock, said he showed no hesitation or defiance as he embraced a minister and went to the chair. Coppola had maintained innocence in the 1978 Newport News killing of Muriel Hatchell, whose skull was crushed during a robbery, and had told a reporter he was prepared to die to end the court’s delays.
