New Cigarettes Low Risk Could Still Harm Health
Government researchers say tobacco firms have developed cigarettes that cause an observable hazard, though they are not safe. NIH scientist Gio Batta Gori notes some brands with low tar may be consumed at about a pack daily with no obvious risk, but cautions no cigarette is truly safe. Coauthor Cornelius J. Oil Equipment Plant To Soviets
The Carter administration approved a 144 million dollar sale to the Soviet Union for an oil drilling equipment plant. A 1 million dollar computer run welding machine held up the package, drawing criticism from Sen. Henry M. Jackson who sought to delay until he could assess potential technological advantages. The license follows Carter’s July 19 trade restrictions on oil and gas equipment to the USSR.
