Ottawa eyes flat tax rate after state tax miscalc
Ottawa officials disclosed a state level error in sales tax and tax base calculations for 2004 to 2006 that overestimated city shares. The correction reduces Ottawa’s 2007 share to about 34.89 percent, costing around 180000 and 2.18 mills, threatening further reductions in 2008 if the county mill boost proceeds. City leaders expect to keep the rate flat to avoid yo-yo taxes while trimming budgets and delaying projects.
