Efficient feed research targets better sorghum digestion
Kansas State University animal scientist Len Harbers and Ruth Schweitzer report findings from tests using nylon bags placed in cows to identify which sorghum stem parts digest first. They aim to breed sorghum with stems easier to digest to boost meat production while reducing forage needed. A separate study by Michael Pariza notes fried ground beef contains mutagens but also cancer-inhibiting substances, suggesting balanced risks and benefits in meat consumption.
