Silverpit crater mapped in North Sea off England
Scientists published details in Nature of a six mile wide meteor impact crater buried beneath 120 feet of seawater and over 900 feet of sediments near England. The Silverpit structure shows concentric rings and a central peak, likely formed 60 to 65 million years ago and linked to the Yucatan impact that helped end the dinosaurs.

Franklin County Commission approves 2003 budget and road deputy increase
Franklin County Board chaired by John E. Taylor met in regular session with commissioners Carey Ferguson Stottlemire and Waymire. They discussed adding one road deputy for 2003 and funding vehicle purchases from equipment reserves. Minutes from July 24 2002 were approved and payroll changes 02-267 to 02-304 authorized. They approved purchasing a plat cabinet not to exceed 1378 dollars and reviewed agreements with Fran ty Historical Society and Franklin County for record storage. Supporters attended including Tom Weigand and Ken Woods as they reviewed designated nonmetropolitan business region tax credits, community image, and sidewalks. Additional topics included security at Crestview and the 2003 Extension Council budget. The meeting moved to Applebee's ribbon cutting and returned to discuss the 2003 proposed budget before adjournment at 1:50.
