Rantoul seeks county help for street improvements

Rantoul mayor Donna Thompson and councilman Bud Edwards asked Franklin County commissioners to assist with McGinnis Road improvements including drainage at Main Street and leveling a large hump. They also sought city-side visibility work while noting county limits on side of road jurisdiction. The panel agreed to pursue railroad and drainage fixes and to request Union Pacific maintenance. it also approved a $36,000 Interior grant to install two groundwater monitoring wells at the county landfill.

OU program brings Hong Kong students to study US business

Forty five Hong Kong students attended Ottawa University over two weeks in OU’s International program to study American business practices. Professors from OU led short term classes while students did much of their work independently. Courses wrap up by Oct. 1 with professors reviewing results. Participants include Kent Li of Mattel Orient Design and Development Hong Kong Eric Fung of New Sulzer Diesel and Jerry Yu of CCIC Financial. A Friendship reception hosted by the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce and local firms accompanied the visit.

Bush campaign apologizes for aide's attack on Clinton

President Bush disavowed a top aide's slashing attack on Bill Clinton that hinted at marital infidelity. Shuttle lowers orbit for Eureca and Tethered Satellite tests

First Lane fair reflects community character and craft
