Fined for empty extinguishers amid county court actions
Three men Norman Hall of Kansas City James Calson of Emporia and another unnamed driver were fined ten dollars plus costs for carrying empty fire extinguishers in their trucks. Highway Patrolmen Art Jensen and Bob Conaty arrested them. Marjorie Davis of Chanute was fined five dollars and costs for failing to slow down to prevent an accident near July 29. Driver’s License Examiner Kenneth Cook cited her.

Power Failure Hits Kansas City District
A partial power outage struck Kansas City's business district this morning with several hotels and office buildings losing service for eight minutes. Authorities blamed short circuits in two underground cables for the blackout affecting the Muehlbach Continental hotels and the Professional Rialto offices.

The Farm Price Index for Kansas farmers fell 10 points in the month ending July 15. Due to a broad price decline in livestock and crops, the mid July index stood at 233 percent of the 1910-14 average, down from 243 a month prior and 244 in 1953, with 229 a year ago.
