Ottawa American Legion B-team, after a 14-6 win over Beloit, lost 4-3 to Rush County in the State Class B tournament semifinal. Beets and Shaffer pitched for Ottawa, but 20 walks and missed defensive plays doomed their title bid as Sedan beat Rush County 9-8 in the final.

South Stars win Legion Classic in 8-4 victory
The South pulled even in the District 2 American Legion All-Star series by beating the North 8-4 in the second annual classic. Ottawa players starred with Kent Ramsey driving in three runs and Buddy Welch adding a triple. Dave Thornbrugh also represented Ottawa. Raymond Shaffer and Steve Pegram were named but could not attend. The North was led by Olathe with Shawnee and Kansas City Posts 399 and 199.

Ottawa Babe Ruth 14 and 15 year olds lost two straight at the state tourney in Pittsburg. Olathe Nationals blanked Ottawa 7 0 four and Dodge City shut out Ottawa 10 0. Jeff Schoch doubled and tripled with two hits, while Mendell and Hamilton fueled the offense. Ottawa’s baserunning and clutch hitting trouble the most, though defense remained solid in spots.

Ottawa 13 year old rookies faced Garden City in loser's bracket tonight after a 14-4 loss to Ark City. Troy Grace pitched well for Ottawa with one hit in Saturday's 7-2 win, while Ark City pitcher Joe Gibson threw a one-hitter in Sunday’s victory. Grace struck out 14 in the first round.
