Ask Pay Hike For Sheriff's Deputies
Franklin County Sheriff Lewis Ashcraft asked the county commission to raise deputy salaries, noting road deputies mostly earn 561.12 monthly while the undersheriff makes 577.81 and a Patrolman I with 1.5 years earns 621.17. He sought a 100 monthly bump, with the sheriff’s pay excluded by statute. The commission, aware of the gaps, considered the request in light of the 1974 budget and authorized a plumber to fix a small gas leak outside the old jail.
